  Dennis Cove to Laurel Falls

January 13th - All of the Fuller family made it for this outing.  We had a very pretty day and drove to Dennis Cove just outside of Hampton, and set out north on the Appalachian Trail to find Laurel Falls.  This hike is pretty easy  and very scenic especially where it crosses the stream via a small bridge.  Actually, almost the entire trail follows the Laurel Fork stream in this section of the AT.  There are lots of very nice views of the surrounding mountains as well (Potato Top and Pond Mountain). When we arrived at the falls they were not a disappointment, and the photos do not do them justice.  They are very impressive.  It was great hike for the kids, but the last .3 mile is almost straight down a rock "staircase" into Laurel Fork Gorge, which made for a tough climb out.  The entire trek was about 1.3 miles (2.6 miles round trip).
